COVID-19 Press Release 3/16/2020
Recommendations To The Public If You Think You May Have Coronavirus (COVID-19)
NorthStar EMS is working diligently with Unity Health to ensure safety to our staff, and the public at large. The following are recommended guidelines for persons who think they may be infected by the COVID-19 Virus.
If you have fever or other symptoms of COVID-19, but do not have any other condition that would warrant an emergency, it is recommended that you not call an ambulance for transport to the Emergency Room. It is recommended that you call your Primary Care Physician (or the hospital Emergency Department if you don’t have a PCP) for instructions on what to do. If they recommend going to the Emergency Room, and you are capable of driving yourself, please do so to limit contact with others. Notify the Emergency Department before arriving for instructions on what to do and where to go when you arrive. Their staff will meet you outside for a pre-screen before entering the hospital.
If you have any other serious issues that might require ambulance transport, please notify the ambulance service dispatcher of your fever, cough or other symptoms. You will be asked a series of questions that will determine the response level.
If you feel you have a true emergency, do not hesitate to call for an ambulance. Please make the dispatcher aware of any symptoms you may have that could possibly be related to the COVID-19 Virus.
It is of utmost importance that contact with others is limited as much as possible. Emergency responders that are exposed to someone that tests positive for COVID-19 may have to be quarantined for at least 14 days. Every emergency responder that is quarantined is one less that will be available to handle true emergency situations. It is everyone’s responsibility to do everything possible to curb this virus. Your cooperation can help the medical community reduce possible exposures.
